Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, is leading the charge to transform agriculture and ensure food security in the state by embracing organic farming practices. During a recent meeting with the Justice Development and Peace Initiative (JDPI) team, led by Bishop Felix Ajakaye of the Ekiti Catholic Diocese, Governor Oyebanji expressed his firm commitment to utilizing organic farming opportunities for rural development and sustainable agricultural practices.
Recognizing the immense potential of organic farming, Governor Oyebanji emphasized its ability to significantly boost food production, improve living standards, and foster healthier lives for the people, all while contributing to a cleaner and greener environment.
Commending the Catholic diocese for its ongoing contributions to the state’s socio-economic progress, the Governor pledged to work closely with the NGO to create a comprehensive roadmap. This roadmap aims to facilitate the adoption of organic farming by providing essential equipment and resources to advance the state’s agricultural sector.
Governor Oyebanji stressed the importance of being proactive in this endeavor, underscoring how many health hazards are a result of poor nutrition, lifestyle choices, and a lack of awareness about the benefits of organic farming.
Addressing the purpose of the meeting, Reverend Father Emmanuel Akingbade spoke on behalf of the NGO, highlighting their mission to champion organic agriculture as a life-saving practice. The NGO seeks the state government’s support to encourage rural development, foster sustainable agricultural practices, and drive transformative change through organic farming.
With plans to launch an organic farming campaign in Ekiti State, the NGO envisions producing healthy and affordable food items of superior quality and quantity while reducing the environmental impact of synthetic chemicals.
